A Passion for Peace and Adventure
Tyler Russell Hill was a history buff with a hero's heart, who found inspiration in Dwight D. Eisenhower's commitment to peace. Despite his Type 1 diabetes, Tyler dreamed of serving as an ambassador of understanding.
The excitement was palpable when a letter arrived from Mary Jean Eisenhower, nominating Tyler for the People to People Student Ambassador Program. This opportunity to travel and connect with others embodied everything he aspired to be.
Tragically, Tyler's life was cut short at the young age of 16 during this program in Tokyo, Japan. His passing on June 29, 2007, at the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center was a heartbreaking loss. The circumstances surrounding his death remain a source of profound grief, with unanswered questions about the attention given to a medical response.
A Legacy of Change
In response to this tragedy, Tyler's parents, Allen and Sheryl Hill, established a non-profit organization, ClearCause dba Depart Smart, dedicated to improving travel safety standards. While the organization has since transitioned, its core mission continues with American International Group (AIG).
This website serves as a tribute to Tyler's character, leadership, and the inspiring young man he was. His memory lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who continue to champion safe travel experiences.

Born to Lead
June 6, 1991
Tyler Russell Hill entered the world on a day etched in history, the anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 1991. From the start, he embodied the qualities of a leader – a supportive brother, a dedicated son, a driven athlete, and a role model for his peers. He excelled in his studies, consistently achieving honors student status. He was recognized at his school for single-handedly reporting a bomb threat when his peers where too frightened to come forward.
A Life Cut Short
Tragically, Tyler's journey ended far too soon on June 29, 2007, in Tokyo, Japan. His passing left a void in the hearts of his loved ones, especially for his parents and his younger brother, Alec, who was just 12 at the time.
