How Can I Help?

The U.S. Department of State recently updated federal regulations around foreign exchange students in America.  Fingerprint background checking is still under review.

Sadly, no federal oversight exist to govern student travel foreign exchange and study abroad.

There are many ways you can step up to support the Traveling Youth's Standards of Safety bill (TY's S.O.S.) and help ensure the safety of students traveling abroad:

Parents, please have a passport ready to go in case your child needs you while traveling abroad. Keep the nearest U S Embassy’s phone number readily available for the country your child is visiting. Do not hesitate to call a consular officer by phoning the nearest U.S. embassy, consulate, or consular agency for assistance. Your child should know the emergency access number in the foreign country.  Contact local police to report the incident and obtain immediate help with safety concerns.  Request a copy of the police report!
